Pandoc is wonderful. I love it both because of how nice of a job it does in converting HTML to Markdown, and it makes converting Markdown to HTML very nice and simple.
The problem with Pandoc is that it is one of the few programs that I use that I can't simply run something like sudo apt-get install pandoc. Why not? The version of Pandoc that is in the Ubuntu repositories is ancient. As a result I have to jump through a few hoops to install Pandoc each time I install Ubuntu on a computer.
The best instructions for installing Pandoc on Ubuntu that I have found were written by John Gabrielle.
